Volunteer

Are you looking for a volunteer experience that's exciting, inspiring and fun? Our volunteers present our world-class museums and their historic neighborhoods to the public and help with special events and education programs. Foster an appreciation for architecture, design and the work of Frank Lloyd Wright by leading tours of the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio, Wright's Robie House or The Rookery Building. Enjoy lasting friendships, earned memberships, social gatherings, excursions, access to an active online community, shopping discounts plus opportunities to continue learning about architecture. New volunteers will join a corps of more than 550 individuals who donate at least four hours per month, or 48 hours in a year, to the Preservation Trust's programs. Help keep the legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright alive by volunteering at the Preservation Trust.

If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, please complete the I want to volunteer form and a member of our staff will be in touch.

Volunteer Opportunities

Make a difference by donating your time and special talents in a variety of areas:

  • Interpreters (Tour Guides): Give tours of the Home and Studio, Robie House and nearby historic neighborhoods.
  • Museum Shop: Welcome guests and assist visitors from all over the world in purchasing tickets and Wright-inspired merchandise.
  • Special Events: Take part in the planning and preparation of Preservation Trust events and public programs.
  • Wright Plus: Get involved in the Preservation Trust’s annual Wright PlusSM housewalk through a variety of frontline and behind-the-scene assignments.
  • Education: Help the education department with our Junior Interpreter volunteers, lectures, and Froebel Block workshops for adults and children.
  • Information Booth (Home and Studio – summer only): Answer questions for our guests about the Home and Studio, Robie House, our communities and Chicagoland. Volunteers also hand out audio tours and check packages for our guests.
  • Distribution Center: Assist with the Preservation Trust catalog mail orders or answer questions by phone at the Distribution Center in Oak Park.
  • Front Desk: Answer questions that people have about the Preservation Trust’s museums, while staffing the front desk at our administrative offices in Oak Park.

Note: We frequently create new volunteer opportunities as our organization grows.
