for any of the listed events. 2008 Events at the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust The Wright 3 Tour of the Robie House In The Wright 3, super-sleuths Calder and Petra are drawn into another art mystery, along with Tommy, this time involving Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House. Now, a special The Wright 3 tour of the Robie House is available for kids of all ages. Led by Junior Interpreters, specially trained 5th-10th graders, The Wright 3 tour will allow kids to experience the space and mystery of the Robie House for themselves.
Date: Every Saturday Design Detectives Family Tour of the Home and Studio Explore the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio to uncover the secrets of his ground-breaking designs. Your family will experience howamerica's most famous architect "broke the box" of traditional design during this interactive tour. Time: 1:30 pm June 2008 Naturally Wright at Wright's Home and Studio Designed to celebrate nature, one of the five major influences on Wright's designs, Naturally Wright honors Arbor Day and Earth Day. This multi-faceted event features a special garden and interior tour exploring the methods Wright utilized to integrate natural features in his designs, an exclusive display of nature drawings from the Preservation Trust's collection and a demonstration on how to create Prairie-inspired botanical arrangements. Refreshments will be served. Time: 4 pm Architecture Fantasy Camp The Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust offers a chance-of-a-lifetime workshop experience for enthusiasts of architecture and design. Within the magical drafting room of Frank Lloyd Wright's Oak Park Studio, participants work with accomplished architects to plan and design a structure of their own creation. The workshop concludes with the execution of an expertly crafted blueprint drawing. Time: 6:30 - 9 pm Youth Architecture Workshops - Level I LEVEL I: A great experience for students entering grade 7 - 12. Participants learn about architectural and design history through innovative instruction, touring and hands-on projects. The Level I workshop instructs students in basic architectural terms, demonstrating how to draw plans and elevations, and leads them in designing for a "client." Students will design their own versions of a Usonian house, creating scaled floor plans and then translating them into three-dimensional models. Time: 8:30 - 11:30 am Youth Architecture Workshops - Level II LEVEL II: Continuing the experience for students entering grade 7 - 12. Participants learn about architectural and design history through innovative instruction, touring and hands-on projects. In Level II, students will design a workspace addition for an existing Usonian model home, draw the scaled floorplan and build the model. Students will also visit two prominent architectural firms in downtown Chicago and compare these spaces to Wright's own studio. The Level I Workshop is a prerequisite for this course. enjoy a private tour of Wright's Usonian masterpiece, Zimmerman House,
and wander the grounds of the elegant Bauhaus style Gropius House, all
in an action-packed four-day tour. Cost: $1695/members, $1895/non-members. Land only. July 2008 Walk and Wine Explore the architectural diversity of the neighborhood surrounding Wright's Robie House. Then survey the neighborhood from a different vantage, the terraces of the Robie House, while enjoying wine, beer and appetizers in a historic landmark designed for entertaining. Location: Robie House, 5757 S. Woodlawn Ave., Chicago Wright Way Wisconsin: Native Genius Travel to Frank Lloyd Wright's home state of Wisconsin and experience some of his most groundbreaking architectural designs. The trip begins with the legendary Johnson Wax building in Racine, and the magnificent Wingspread, Herbert Johnson's 14,000-square-foot residence. Visit Spring Green, and experience a custom tour of Wright's Taliesin, one of the world's greatest examples of his organic architecture. Visit Monona Terrace, a community and convention center in Madison designed by Wright in 1938 and finally constructed in 1997. End the four-day trip in Milwaukee with a stay at the Historic Pfister Hotel, a visit to the Milwaukee Art Museum and a special exhibit on George Mann Niedecken, best known for his interior design collaboration with Frank Lloyd Wright. Learn about extraordinary Wright-designed furniture, vases, and light fixtures; Wright's approach to interior design in the Home and Studio; and fine and decorative arts collected by Wright during the early years of his career. Pieces vary from Japanese prints and original nature scene paintings to Arts and Crafts vases. Tour time: 10 am Robie House Secrets and Shadows Tours Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House opens its doors after dark for a unique seasonal tour Robie House Secrets and Shadows. The Robie House's nearly century-old history will be explored under a veil of darkness as Preservation Trust guides lead the special tours by flashlight. Stories and myths surrounding Robie House and its previous inhabitants will be shared, as well as exclusive access to areas rarely open to the public. Time: 7 pm - 9 pm, tours depart every 20 minutes November 2008 Geek's Guide to the Home and Studio: Restoration Tour Discover how a dedicated crew of volunteers saved the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio from ruin. Focusing on the alterations to the Home and Studio from 1909 to 1974, made by Wright and subsequent owners, the Geek's Guide tour details the inspirational story of how the historic museum was returned to its 1909 appearance. Survey photos and drawings documenting the restoration process, and visit the Preservation Trust Research Center to examine items uncovered during the restoration. Discussions include the controversial restoration decisions made and on-going restoration questions about the Home and Studio.
